Known as the “Boyacá Garden” for its colonial facades embellished with beautiful colorful gardens. It stands out for its colonial heritage, rustic furniture and the production of feijoa and its by-products. The tranquility and climate of the area made it the favorite place for the settlement of very distinguished Spanish families, being this the reason for the existence of several colonial mansions in the municipality. As a curiosity we must mention the uninterrupted matriarchy that led the destiny of the municipality for almost three decades.
This municipality stands out as one of the main producers of feijoa on a national level. It is a fruit similar to guava whose plant was first brought to the municipality in 1935. Around it has moved a part of the economy and gastronomic culture, from the fruit is made sabajon, desserts, jams, arequipe, ice cream, masato, sandwiches and sauces. To further seal the relationship of the fruit with the municipality, the cultural and gastronomic festival of the feijoa is organized every San Pedro festivities.
