Cuítiva is a municipality in Boyaca that is quite popular for tourists because it is one of the towns that are bordering Lake Tota. The name Cuítiva means «The land of the captain’s wife», it was named like that because before the arrival of the Spaniards, the natives were ruled by a cacique or captain who paid tribute to the cacique Suamox and obeyed the high priest of the temple of the sun. It has many shelters and cabins around to enjoy the benefits of the landscape. In the center of the town is the chapel dating from 1537, very close is the fountain of the monument to Bochica.
