Lake Tota is an important tourist destination in the department of Boyacá, considered by the Muiscas indigenous as a sanctuary for worship of the gods, is the largest lake in Colombia and the second highest navigable in South America after Lake Titicaca. It is a very charming place with a spectacular countryside landscape dyed green and yellow red by the contrast of forests and potato and onion crops, has five charming islands and is surrounded by towns and cities that are heritage of the colonial period.
